There are essentially two types of Health Insurance Coverage: Fee-For-Service and Managed Care. Most Health Insurance Policies (of both varieties) cover an array of medical, surgical, prescription drugs and hospital expenses. Some Health Insurance Plans also cover dental coverage.
Various Types of Health Insurance Explained:
1. Fee-For Service:
These plans generally assume that the medical professional will be paid
a fee for each service that is provided to the patient. Patients can be
seen by a doctor of their choice and either the medical provider or the
patient files the claim.
2. Managed Care:
More than half of all Americans have this type of health insurance.
Various plans work differently and can include HMOs (Health Maintenance
Organizations) and PPOs (Preferred Provider Organizations). These plans
provide comprehensive health services to their members and offer
financial incentives to patients who use the providers in the plan.
